Workshop: The Improvising Harpist Cookbook: A Workshop on Improvisation for All Harpists

Register here: https://www.harpsetc.com/third-thursday-with-cymber-lily-quinn.html

Join me for this exciting improvisational workshop! Let’s delve into the foundational recipe from my new publication, “The Improvising Harpist Cookbook.” This basic recipe serves as a gateway to the exciting world of harp improvisation, offering essential insights and techniques. I will guide you through the fundamental elements, equipping you with the key ingredients necessary to embark on your journey of musical spontaneity and expression.

I am an expert in harp improvisation, mesmerizing audiences with my improvised compositions and innovative teaching methods. I have dedicated my career to mastering the art of improvisation and sharing that with others.

In addition to my own harp playing, I am the founder of The Improvising Harpist Facebook Group and offer a free Tuesday night PlayShop.

In this workshop, I am set to share my expertise through the upcoming book, “The Improvising Harpist Cookbook: 21 Tasty Recipes for Harp Improvisation.” This comprehensive guide empowers harpists to explore 21 different recipes for improvisation, drawing on my experience to unlock their creative potential. The upcoming book promises to be a staple for harp enthusiasts, offering a delightful blend of musical wisdom, practical advice, and creativity.

As an teacher, I guide students on a transformative journey, fostering a deep connection between harpists and their instruments, encouraging self-expression, and nurturing the confidence to explore new musical horizons.

I have an impressive musical portfolio, including three CDs and numerous singles of instrumental music and guided meditation with esteemed teachers. My debut CD, “Seasons of the Soul,” was featured on National Public Radio’s Hearts of Space and Hawaii Public Radio, earning me a Big Island Music Award. My visionary musical direction and mindful harp compositions have garnered five Big Island Music Awards for New Age Music. I also produce a bi-monthly solo harp podcast, Relaxing Harp Music, that has received numerous accolades.

Tuesday Night is Harp Improvisation PlayShop Night

June 12, 2023 By AlohaCymber

When I started the free improvisation class on Tuesday nights last August, I thought I might have run out of ideas by now. I’m mean it’s been almost a year.

But you keep coming and I keep coming and each week, I don’t know for sure what we are going to talk about because the class is … well… improvised.

You ask questions and bring up ideas, and we play through them to see what we like and what works well.

I hear from my regulars that they are busy creating new music for yoga classes and meditation classes. One student is writing French electro-pop with a harp part. It’s all so exciting!

Right now we are in the middle of me sharing how I play my improvised concert, Seasons of the Soul. It’s a 5-part composition, and we are working on Part 4 on Tuesday, June 13 on Zoom at 7:05pm Mountain Time (Denver, Colorado).

If you’d like to come, please message me, and I’ll send you the link.

If you can’t attend live, the class will be posted in the FB Group, so you can watch later.

Hope to see you there!

Warmly,

Cymber

PS – Starting Aug. 11, I will be offering live Harp Improv PlayShops for EU/UK group members. The PlayShop will be at noon Mountain Time (Denver), and will be in the evening for EU/UK peeps.

I don’t know what to practice…

June 8, 2023 By AlohaCymber

One of the biggest challenges I hear from improvising harpists is this: I don’t know what to practice…

I know. I’ve struggled with this myself.

I have a great lesson, or I stumbled across some gem on YouTube, and then I get stuck trying to figure out what to practice.

When I first started teaching, I noticed that my students got stuck, too.

Over the years, I have developed a practice checklist, which is also my lesson checklist.

It’s what we do in a lesson, and what students do when they are practicing.

You can get it done in 20 minutes, 30 if you’re being leisurely.

I have tried to send out this practice checklist to everyone who joins my FB Group, The Improvising Harpist. But I might have missed one or two…

If you’d like a copy of The Improvising Harpist Practice Checklist (or another copy), just type PRACTICE in the comments below, and I’ll send you the link to the checklist.

If you have your own checklist, I’d love to see it! And if you have suggestions for additions to the checklist, I’d love to hear that, too. Just drop me a note.

Warmly,

Cymber

PULL THE TRIGGER!

June 7, 2023 By AlohaCymber

Some of the best improvs are sketched out on napkins and then IMMEDIATELY implemented!

Need help pulling the trigger?

Let’s talk. I have a varsity letter in marksmanship (really!) and a passion for teaching harp improvisation. I can teach you how to breathe and let go, and get started improvising again.

Send me a note, and we’ll set up a time to chat.
